Eastern Christian School welcomes Christine Matias as high school mathematics teacher.

Christine holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and elementary education and a master’s in education–special education, both from Monmouth University. Christine has spent her professional career serving as a middle school and high school mathematics teacher. After eleven years in public education, Christine felt called to Eastern Christian School because of her desire to help students not only grow in their math skills, but also who they are in Christ. She is a member of Church Alive.

Please tell us about yourself.

I am married to my amazing husband, Jack, and have two children, Ava and Gia, both of whom will be starting EC in the fall. At Church Alive, I serve as a member of the Kids Alive team and lead Transform Running. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and running. I plan to run the New York City Marathon this year. I grew up in Lyndhurst NJ.

Tell the story of how you got to EC?

Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher. There was never another option in my mind. I went to Monmouth University and studied elementary education and mathematics. After graduating, I was encouraged to pursue my high school certification. I went on to receive my master’s in special education. I began teaching as a middle school mathematics teacher and then became a high school mathematics teacher.

Raising my children, working, and teaching in a Christian environment became something that started weighing heavily on my heart. In 2023, I came for a tour of EC after my sister-in-law raved about how wonderful the school was. On my tour, I fell in love with the school and knew I wanted my children to attend. Fast forward one year, a mathematics teacher position opened. I knew God opened this position at the right time for me and my family. After prayer and multiple confirmations, I applied to EC and resigned from my job as a public school teacher.

What sets EC apart?

When I stepped on the campus for my initial tour, it was clear that EC valued faith, education, community, and the safety of their students. EC does not only provide a rigorous education, but equips them with the spiritual and emotional tools needed in their Christian walk.

See what a Christ-centered education looks like for your child.
